Why Wellbeing Matters in Modern Perioperative Care
Exceptional patient care starts with supported, connected and healthy healthcare professionals.
That’s why we continue to create events that not only share the latest clinical knowledge, but also give healthcare professionals the time and space to connect, reflect and support one another.
Following the success of the recent Well-being Retreat and Scientific Meeting, we’re carrying that same ethos into the upcoming 13th East Midlands Critical Care and Perioperative Medicine Hybrid Conference, taking place on 8–9 October 2026 in Nottingham.
While the October conference is firmly focused on advancing knowledge in critical care, anaesthesia and perioperative medicine, the conversations around wellbeing remain just as important.
Across healthcare, clinicians continue to face increasing pressures — from workforce shortages and growing patient complexity to the emotional demands of modern clinical practice. Technical excellence alone is no longer enough. Sustainable healthcare also depends on creating space for reflection, peer support and honest discussion about the realities of working in high-pressure environments.
That’s something we saw first-hand at the Well-being Retreat. Away from the pace of day-to-day clinical settings, delegates had the opportunity to step back, share experiences and reconnect with the human side of healthcare. The feedback reinforced just how valuable these moments can be — not only personally, but professionally too.
The upcoming October conference builds on that foundation by bringing together leading experts and multidisciplinary professionals to explore the latest developments in perioperative medicine and critical care, while still recognising the importance of collaboration, mentorship and clinician wellbeing alongside clinical excellence.
This year’s programme includes sessions covering:
What’s new in prehabilitation
The latest developments in perioperative medicine
Lessons from the Fit After Surgery study
Journey through the final stages of training
The confidence burden in intensive care medicine
Practical evidence-based updates in critical care and anaesthesia
Alongside the educational content, the conference continues to provide something equally valuable — a welcoming environment where healthcare professionals from different disciplines and career stages can learn from one another and build lasting connections.
As a not-for-profit organisation, our goal has always been to make high-quality education accessible while supporting the wider healthcare community. Whether attending online or in person, delegates will once again have the opportunity to be part of conversations that extend beyond medicine alone. Conversations about resilience, teamwork, leadership and the future of sustainable healthcare practice.
Registration for the October conference is now open, with early bird delegate fees currently available.
“What stood out most was having the time and space to pause, reflect and have honest conversations with colleagues facing many of the same challenges. It was supportive, inspiring and a real reminder of the importance of looking after ourselves as well as our patients.”
